Resveratrol has captured attention from the global scientific community over recent decades, following its discovery by Japanese researcher, Michio Takaoka, in 1939, when he was studying exotic, flowering plants. It is a widely studied phenolic compound, and has appeared in over 20,000 research papers. 

Resveratrol is produced by plants in response to pathogens. This natural phenol is found in very low concentrations in the skin of some grapes and berries. Resveratrol acts like an antioxidant in the body, protecting against inflammation and contributing to reducing the risk of diverse pathologies . Resveratrol belongs to polyphenols’ stilbenoids group. This natural polyphenol has been detected in more than 70 plant species, and is a phytoalexin that has antibacterial and antifungal properties. Furthermore, studies have shown that resveratrol has promising antiviral and cholesterol-lowering effects, as well as contributing to reducing joint pain.
