Andrographis is a plant that is native of South Asian countries such as India and Sri Lanka. It is frequently used for preventing and treating the common cold and flu. It is a medicinal herb with an extremely bitter taste used to treat liver disorders, bowel complaints of children, colic pain, common cold and upper respiratory tract infection.

 

It might stimulate the immune system. It may improve the blood cell counts in people with HIV and help with allergies.Andrographis is used in traditional medicine to treat infectious diseases and fevers. In the lab, it exhibits antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunostimulant properties. 

 

Preliminary studies suggest andrographis alone or in combination with other herbs may reduce duration and severity of upper respiratory infections associated with the common cold or flu. Other data suggest it may help some inflammatory conditions such as ulcerative colitis or rheumatoid arthritis, but more studies are needed.
