IVY EXTRACT 4:1
This product is not available at the moment
Ivy leaf extracts have long been used to treat respiratory diseases. Ivy is an evergreen vine that can climb to 20 meters, native to most of Europe and northern and Central Asia. Historically, ivy extracts were used for a wide array of pathologies, including digestive issues and general wounds. The leaves and berries were taken orally as an expectorant to treat cough and bronchitis. British herbalist John Gerard recommended water infused with ivy leaves as a wash for sore or watering eyes in 1597.
Ivy extract boasts mucus-dissolving properties. Preparations from ivy leaf, or Hedera helix as it is known botanically, are well established for the relief of productive or chesty coughs. Studies indicate that it does this by widening the air passages in the lungs, and stimulating the bronchial glands in the lungs to secrete a watery fluid.
The major compounds responsible for the biological activity are triterpene saponins.
