Bilberry extract

Bilberry extract comes from a plant that produces berries similar to the American blueberry. The dried fruit and leaves have been used for medicinal purposes since the Middle Ages. Bilberry extract fruit contains chemicals known as anthocyanosides, plant pigments that have excellent antioxidant properties. 

Bilberry also contains chemicals called tannins, and there is evidence that this component found in bilberry leaves can help lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Generally, bilberry has been used for a variety of conditions such as inflammation of the mouth, diarrhea, urinary problems, and diabetes. It has also been used traditionally to prevent scurvy, due to its high vitamin C content.
